3 Cebu teams to join tournaments in Manila

CEBU City athletes will be busy next week as three teams will leave for Manila for different national tournaments.

First to leave is the Team Cebu City Athletic squad, which will see action in the National Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association Open at the Rizal Memorial Track Oval on May 26-31.

Later this month, the Cebu City Men’s Softball team is next to leave to open its title-retention bid in the Summer Grand Slam National Softball Open Championship in Lipa City. The competition is slated on May 30-June 6.

The Team Cebu City Taekwondo team will also be flying to Manila this month to take part in a national competition.

Softball coach Dionisio Bacarisas is thankful to the city government that their request for assistance was granted.

“We are very thankful to the Cebu City Government that they did not turn us down. We were given the chance to bring the name of Cebu City in the national tournament,” Bacarisas told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday, adding that the government support is a huge morale booster for the team.

The Cebuano members of Softball team will be leaving for Manila on May 28, to join their Manila-based teammates, before leaving for Lipa.

The Cebu team is beefed up by Cebuanos, who are members of the national softball team.

“The other members who are in Manila will join us on our way to Lipa City. We will have four additions—all Cebuanos— from the RP Blu Boys, while our local players are all geared up for the games,” said Bacarisas. (RCM)
