Sunday, May 18, 2008 Siso clinches two finals slot
SALLY Mae Siso completed her furious bid to kick out Shanine Olivarez from the Juntaphil Tennis Competition with a two-set win in their semifinal showdown of the Girls 14-Under division at the Olivarez’ courts yesterday.
It was only the semifinals but Siso felt that she was already a winner as she had wanted nothing more than to avenge her loss last week to Olivarez. She did that twice in this competition following a 7-5, 6-2 rubout. Last Friday, Siso also trounced Olivarez in the quarterfinals of the Girls 16 division, but needed three sets to defeat her.
Last week, in the Head Penn Competition, Siso lost to Olivarez in the finals of the Girls 14 but contends that it was only because of bad calls, making it Siso’s worst performance of the year as she lost in two divisions.
“I really wanted to defeat her. I want to show them that I can defeat her in a clean way,” said Siso, adding that she saw to it that she had sure shots so that there will be no chance for the umpires to make questionable calls.
Riding on the momentum of her win over Olivarez, Siso also moved to the finals of the Girls 16 division after trouncing Sarah Jane Lim, 6-3, 6-1, in their semis battle, to arrange two championship matches today.
Meanwhile, in the boys’ class, Bernadine Niño Siso pulled off a 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over Jason Patrombon to advance to the Boys 16 final round, while Larry Antigua moved to the Boys 18 final after a masterful 6-2, 6-0 win over Nic Magaway. (MCB)
