AN additional 400 Tindahan Natin (TN) outlets will be put up by the Department of Social Welfare and Development this year to accommodate more local government units (LGUs) identified as food-poor areas.
Some 300 of the TNs will be placed in Cebu, 60 in Oriental Negros, 30 in Siquijor and 10 in Bohol.
Last year, the DSWD and the National Food Authority established 387 TNs in Central Visayas. These have served almost 100,000 households.
TN is a National Government-initiative for job generation, livelihood and food security which initially started in Metro Manila.
It aimed to provide a safety net for the poor and prioritized areas with very high hunger incidence.
Coordination
Under the project, the DSWD, in coordination with the LGUs, identify the potential operators/outlets and provide necessary assistance like financing, training, conduct of seminars/workshops for business entrepreneurs and other livelihood programs.
The DSWD also issues the family identification card or pass book and monitors that the prescribes the selling price of the goods.
The budget allocated for the new 400 TNs is P8 million.
