Aboitiz scion dead

A MEMBER of the prominent Aboitiz family was found dead in his parents’ house in Maria Luisa Estate Park in Banilad, Cebu City last Saturday night.

The body Luis Alfonso Y. Aboitiz, 48, was lying on the bed inside the house’s guest room at around 7 p.m. He had a gunshot wound.

Sun.Star Cebu is withholding more details of his death on the request of his grieving family.

Aboitiz’s remains lie in state at the Cebu Rolling Hills Memorial Chapel in Mandaue City.

Also known as Al to his friends, Luis Alfonso was the executive vice president of Aboitiz Equity Ventures Power Distribution Group and served as chief operating officer
(COO) of Visayan Electric Company (Veco) before he was assigned to Davao Light and Power Company also as COO.

Cebu City Councilor Sylvan Jakosalem, chairman of the City Council committee on energy, described Al as a good friend and a great loss to the community.

“We feel great loss and are equally shocked at the circumstances of his death. The community lost a great man who was respected by a lot of people, especially when he became chief operating officer of Veco. He instituted reforms that improved Veco’s quality of service,” Jakosalem said in a text message sent to Sun.Star Cebu.

A mass will be offered for Al at 10 a.m. today at the Asilo de la Milagrosa church. (JST)
