Monday, May 19, 2008 Health of Bry. Sinsin evacuees stabilizes
AFTER suffering from impetigo and loose bowel movement, the sick evacuees of Sitio Nangka, Barangay Sinsin have become better after the Cebu City Government sent a medical team there last Saturday.
“Their condition is now stable. This is because the Cebu City Government acted and gave medical assistance,” Barangay Captain Ramon Ylaya Jr. told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview.
He said three adults and five children were ill.
“Yesterday (Saturday), three doctors came to assist the barangay midwife,” Ylaya said in Cebuano.
The Cebu City Health Department medical team, headed by Dr. Fe Cabugao, gave medications to the evacuees who got sick.
Cebu City action officer and Councilor Gerardo Carillo said that they would also be sending a dental team to the sports complex today.
“There is a concern on their dental health,” he said.
Improvement
The medical team will also be back to check on the improvement of the evacuees’ health.
Currently, there are 43 households from Sitio Nangka staying at the sports complex.
On the concern for a relocation site, Ylaya said they inspected two possible areas yesterday.
He, however, is not yet certain if the two lots would be safe for the families.
“We cannot determine that, but the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) could,” he said in Cebuano.
In recommending for the immediate transfer of the Sitio Nangka residents two weeks ago, the MGB suggested that the City Government first determine the soil stability of the relocation site.
“Structural and geological assessment of the possible relocation site should be undertaken prior to construction of permanent dwellings/houses on the site,” it said.
Cheaper
Sinsin barangay officials have also eyed the lot of former city councilor Procopio Fernandez as a possible relocation site for the dislocated families.
They, however, are still looking for cheaper lots for their relocation site, said Ylaya.
The City Council last Wednesday has set aside P205,000 for the financial assistance of P5,000 to each of the affected families.
Carillo earlier said the amount would be used to purchase construction materials to rebuild their homes. (EPB)
