Jan-jan to DOH: stay off

GENARO Jorolan, also known as Jan-jan, will be asking the Office of the Ombudsman today to exclude the Department of Health (DOH) in the ongoing investigation of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) medical workers over his controversial operation performed last Jan. 3.

Jorolan and his lawyer Guiller Ceniza will also ask the Ombudsman to have the DOH turn over all their documents related to the investigation to the anti-graft office.

In a DyLA interview last Thursday, DOH Undersecretary Alexander Padilla said that the DOH would be ready to hand over the case should the Ombudsman decide to take over.

“Talagang ‘pag ginawa yan sa ombudsman talagang wala na rin kaming responsibilidad sa kaso na yan (If the ombudsman takes the case, we will no longer have responsibility over it.),” Padilla said.

Jorolan will also be asking the Ombudsman to keep his real name from the media, and will file a motion before the Office of the Ombudsman next week to stop the media from using his real name.

Earlier, Jorolan and his lawyer have been asking the media to stop using his real name and instead continue using his alias.

Ceniza said that Jorolan should be treated as a rape victim and therefore his name should be withheld from the public.

The insertion of the canister in his rectum when he was unconscious is considered rape, said Ceniza in an earlier interview.

Barangay Captain Dave Tumulak, who has been assisting Jorolan, also appealed to the media last week to stop using Jorolan’s real name.

Sun.Star Cebu tried to contact Ceniza last night to comment on these issues; however his mobile phone was turned off.

Jorolan’s procedure made news when it was uploaded to the video-sharing website, YouTube.com. The video showed the medical team and other people cheering and clapping loudly when the spray canister was removed from his rectum.

Jorolan is now seeking P6 million in damages from the medical team and the hospital. (EPB)
