African king in Cebu today

HIS Majesty, King Mswati III of Swaziland, will arrive in Cebu at 3 p.m. today for a three-day vacation before going to Bohol and Manila.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz (Cebu City, 6th district) and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Aturo Radaza will welcome the king upon his arrival.

The king will stay in Cebu for three days before leaving for Manila on Sunday to meet with President Arroyo. He will be in the country until Tuesday.

According to the Swaziland king’s advance party, the king had “heard a lot” about Cebu and decided to spend a few days here for a short vacation. His stay in Cebu will include a trip to Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa and the Magellan’s Cross.

Mswati will also drop by Bohol for lunch on his way to Manila.

Mswati, whose father had 40 wives, will come to Cebu with one of his 13 wives.

Swaziland is a country in southern Africa that is known for its diamond mines, and is also known to have one of the highest number of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Aids)-stricken people in the world.

Swaziland is also one of the Philippines’ markets for coconut products. (KAB)
