Father beats wife, holds son hostage

A BOY’S first birthday was spoiled after his father, in a drunken fit, allegedly beat up his mother and held the boy hostage in Malabuyoc town, Cebu.

Edison Alsola, 22, was arrested and now faces charges for violation of the Violence Against Women and Children Act and slight physical injuries in relation to child abuse filed before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident happened last Monday.

Party

Alsola and his common-law-wife Annabelle Dinoy were holding a party in their house in Barangay Poblacion Uno to celebrate their son Keith Russel’s first birthday.

At about 8:30 p.m., Alsola was reportedly drunk when he reportedly got into an argument with Annabelle.

During their argument, Alsola allegedly lost his temper, choked Annabelle and then wrestled with her.

When she threatened to leave him, he allegedly grabbed Keith and pointed a knife at his son, holding him hostage. He also reportedly hurled his son on the pavement.
witnesses were alarmed and had to call up the Malabuyoc Police Station for assistance.

Release

PO3 Romeo Carcedo told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that as soon as his colleagues, PO2 Antonio Icalina and PO2 Dionisio Antecristo Jr., arrived, Alsola released the boy.

“Nipatuo ra man pud siya dayon (He obeyed our orders to release the boy),” Carcedo said.

Asked what Alsola and Annabelle were arguing about, Carcedo was not sure, only that Alsola was under the influence of liquor.

Though they filed a case against Alsola, Carcedo said, Annabelle is planning to file an affidavit of desistance to express her disinterest in pursuing a case against her husband.

He added that the complainants the injuries were not serious.

Carcedo said they will wait for orders from the prosecutor’s office as they have already filed the case. (MEA)
