Milendo, Bacon, Domingo in Banal undercard

AS AJ “Bazooka” Banal faces the most essential fight of his young professional career against Rafael Concepcion for the vacant World Boxing Association super flyweight title on July 19 at the Cebu Coliseum, another ALA boy will fight for a crucial bout in the undercard.

The World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific minimum weight champion Milan “Milenyo” Milendo will be gunning for the WBA Federlatin minimum weight crown against Carlos Melo of Panama.

Melindo has never been defeated in his 15 fights as a professional pugilist and has exceptional footwork and throws lightning fast punch combinations.

The 20-year-old boxer acquired his WBO Asia Pacific title from Nuapayak Sakkririn last Oct. 6 and successfully defended his title against Indonesian Jack Amisa last Dec 2.

He showed his class with superb boxing skills in his last bout against Sofyan Effendi in a 10-round unanimous decision during their March 7 battle in Mandaue.

The 25-year-old Melo has an 18-win 6-loss professional record, with only 2 KOs. He has fought the likes of Eriberto Gejon, Katsunari Takayama for the WBA minimum weight interim title, Juan Jose Landaeta in a title eliminator and Ronald Barrera, who lost to Filipino champion Florante Condes’ upcoming opponent Raul “Rayito” Garcia.

Meanwhile, World Cup of Boxing campaigner Michael Domingo (35-14-2) will be also in the card and is set to fight another Indonesian, while newcomer James Bacon (4-1, 3 KOs) is also slated in the fight card, against a still to be named foreign foe. (EKA)
