Saturday, May 24, 2008 Arum wants Pacquiao vs. Valero in October
WHO’s next?
After Top Rank big boss Bob Arum expressed his plans to have Filipino superstar Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao fight World Boxing Organization, World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation lightweight titleholder Nate “Galaxy Warrior” Campbell after his war with World Boxing Council lightweight king David Diaz on June 28 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, another name is being prepped for a future Pacquiao fight.
Arum has another plan in mind and that is a slugfest with WBA super featherweight kingpin Edwin Valero according to a report posted at philboxing.com.
Although it isn’t yet official and negotiations haven’t been initiated, Arum plans this fistic war against the two knockout artists to take place in Macau in October.
Valero has long been following Pacquiao hoping for a fight with the Filipino warrior and this year the Venezuelan slugger could finally have his dream come true and be on top of the ring trading leathers with Pacquiao.
Valero boasts a professional record of 23 wins and no losses with all his wins by knockout, with 19 in the first round.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao got two new lefty sparring partners, lightweight Steve Quinonez and welterweight Gary McMillan, in preparation for his June 28 fight with the southpaw Diaz.
The 29-year-old champion sparred with Quinonez for three rounds.
Quinonez is a 37-year-old veteran pugilist and is 31-12-1 with 10 KOs. He has fought the likes of the late former two division world champion Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Lovemore N’duo, Steve Forbes and Stevie Johnston.
Pacquiao’s last southpaw sparring partner was Victor Ortiz and his last lefty opponent was Fahsan Rakkiatgym 3K Battery, whom he defeated via TKO in the fourth round of their fight in 2004. (EKA)
