LOUIE Mariano of Del Monte Golf and Country Club wrapped up the two-fourth leg of the Junior Open Golf Tournament with a three-stroke win after finishing with a 76 in the Class A Division title of the VisMin Youth Golf Circuit at the Cebu Country Club yesterday.

Mariano and Chepe Dulay of Negros Oriental Golf and Country Club, both finished had 76 yesterday, but Mariano’s 71 on Day 1 was enough for the title.

Dulay was three strokes away at second with 150, while Jan Jan Ybañez of Cebu Country Club placed third with 157.

Meanwhile, in the Special Division JJ Alvarez of CCC won the title after closing with a 76 for a 151.

Charles Hong also of CCC placed second with 154 and Del Monte’s Banny Abanio dislodged Bayani Garcia with 81 yesterday for two-day haul of 160 to salvage third place.

In the Girls’ Class A, Marian Woo of Del Monte GCC broke last Thursday’s deadlock with a 77 to beat her Kristine Leonen also of Del Monte with a 157 points. Leonen had an 80 yesterday for a 160.

In the Boys Class B division Lloyd Jefferson Go of CCC kept his swings steady to close out with a 149 after yesterday’s 74, beating Vijay Vasandani of Mactan Golf Club, who finished with a 158 points. Clyde Mondilla of Del Monte finished third with 159.

In the Girls side, Irina Gabasa blew away her competition after finishing Day 2 with a 74 to end the leg with 151, beating Apple Fudolin of Del Monte by five.

Meanwhile, the VisMin Youth Golf Circuit also got a big boost from Callaway Golf who donated 10 complete golf sets to the juniors during a simple handover ceremony during the ongoing Mercedes-Benz Masters Philippines in Tagaytay on Thursday. Present were VisMin Circuit co-founder Jovi Neri, GM Glenn Baroma and sales manager Ana Herrera of local Callaway distributor Electrobus Consolidated, and Patrick Joyce of World Sport Group, which runs the Mecedez-Benz pro tour.

“The donation will be a tremendous boost to golf development in this region,” said VisMin Circuit head Jovi Neri. “The sets will be allocated to the different host venues who are in the better position to determine who their deserving and needy talents are for these sets.

“Holding the handover ceremony in an international professional event with media personalities from World Sport Group and Asian Golf Monthly will boost awareness of our programs in the southern areas of the country,” said Neri. (RCM with PR)
