Tuesday, May 27, 2008 Espina: Cebu’s mega events By Mila C. Espina In my diary
IT is always something big that makes Cebu one of the busiest in the Philippines! The Philippine Airlines (PAL) just inaugurated the PAL Express Cebu Hub Flights which will have the initial six flights to five southern points, a major upgrade in PAL’s sizeable presence in Cebu. The inauguration presscon and lunch had no less than Department of Tourism Usec. Phineas Alburo, Board Member Agnes Magpale and a host of media and travel groups who lent their support to PAL’S top brass led by president Jaime Bautista.
PAL will operate the fleet of nine turbo-propeller; three bombardier Q300s and six bombardier aerospace of Canada. They bear the Q sign to express the flights’ quiet and relaxing travel, with outstanding take-off and landing capabilities. Expect comfortable 50 seats in Q300 and 76 in Q400, a 30-inch pitch that even long-legged Phineas Alburo could sit comfortably.
Initial daily flights to and from Cebu cover Bacolod, Boracay, Butuan, Davao, Gensan, Iloilo, Puerto Princesa, Cagayan de Oro, Dipolog, Ozamis and Zamboanga. Isn’t this a mega thrilla for travelers?
SPAIN IN YOUR PALATE
Another mega occasion was the dinner cum tourism presentation we attended with the Tourism counselor of the Embassy Of Spain and director of the Spain Tourism Board for SE Asia, Australia, New Zealand and India. Well, the Spanish roots are deeply embedded in our culture and seeing the fabulous travel landmarks of Madrid, Toledo and other scenic resources of Spain and tasting the most delicious Spanish dishes, not new to the Filipino palate, made the affair really special. Enrique Ruiz De Lera was so articulate and cordial which make him perfect for the huge role he plays for tourism. His counterpart in Cebu, Consul Jaime Picornell has been a staunch proponent in selling both Cebu and Spain as destinations.
MORE MEGA HAPPENINGS
The Cebu Chamber Of Commerce And Industry (CCCI) had its induction recently where past president Francis Monera received an Award of Excellemce, for a job well done, a hard act to follow by the equally dynamic but unassuming new president Edward Gaisano. The Peaks and Northridge Picnic Party of the Monterrazas Of Cebu was something novel in product promotions. Nokia 888

The Search for the Ambassador And Ambassadress of Business and Industry will be another mega event because it will feature our young leaders. This will be held at 2:30 p.m., June 26 at the Plenary hall, CICC. Chairman Bruce Bollozoz, assisted by Alice Woolbright, Marilou Pintor, Cherrypie Callelero, Ma-an Alcordo and Ched 7, will make this charm-intelligence search fulfilling.
Meantime, CCTC commissioner, Vice Mayor Mike Rama, will gather tourism stakeholders for a meeting tomorrow, May 27, at the Waterfront Hotel.
After the Suroy-Suroy in Camotes, the next will be June 12-13, part of the Cebu Business Month partnership with the Province Of Cebu.
