Talisay shuttlers sweep Aja in Suico tourney

TALISAY Shuttlers Club’s best bet Armel Loon and Abbu Bantilan foiled the bid of the Aja Badminton Club for a total domination following their dramatic victory over the duo of Nilo Letegio and Fernando Doldolea in the finals of the Men’s Doubles Level C in the 2nd Gabriel Suico Dual Meet Badminton tournament held at the Talisay City Central Square Badminton Hall Saturday night.

All activities stopped when Loon and Bantilan defended its turf against the visiting Aja squad, which uses the Cebu City Sports Center Badminton court as its base.

Loon and Bantilan took the first set, 22-20, while Letegio and Doldolea grabbed the second set also 22-20 before the Shuttlers’ bet won the third and deciding set, 21-16.

Aside from the Men’s Doubles Level C title, the other categories went to Aja’s way.

Ricky Ballesteros and Albert Moriles won the Men’s Doubles Level E title over teammate Nelson Dinglasa and Jayson Cañete, 2-1. Ballesteros was named MVP in their category.

Aja’s Joel Ramos and Daryl Angeles, on the other hand, defeated teammate Jun Jun Doldolea and Leric Rama, 2-0, for the Men’s Doubles Level D title. Edgar Bordardero and Jhay-R Rodriguez also of Aja won the bronze medal. Angeles was named MVP in their category.

April Love Zamora and Brenda Villamil of Aja defeated Talisay Shuttlers’ Grace Zafra and Renia Bacus for the Women’s Doubles Level E gold medal. Cathy Ylaya and Neneth Genebraldo won the bronze medal while Villamil was named MVP.

Sisters Vivian and Renalyn Remedio also of Aja won the Women’s Doubles Level D title over Shuttlers Rieken and Cleofe while Joy Vergara and Gembie Bonachita won the bronze medal. Vivian Remedio was the MVP in their category. (RCM)
