After Zamboanga bombing, PRO7 orders red alert

FOLLOWING the bombing of an office in Zamboanga City yesterday morning, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 ordered all its units to be on alert.

PRO 7 Director Ronald Roderos said he directed all city and provincial directors to implement preventive security measures.

The three-tiered defense system, he said, was their strategy against terrorism.

If they are to follow the strategy, it requires them to intensify information gathering from the intelligence community and all sectors.

The second step is called target hardening, wherein they increase security measures in areas perceived to be possible targets of terrorist attacks such as malls, airports and other crowded places.

The third step is incident management and is applied whenever an attack has occurred.

Roderos was quick to say, though, that they have not received specific threats to any area in Central Visayas.

However, he said there will always be a “generic threat” in the region, with Cebu being one of the most highly urbanized areas outside Metro Manila.

Two were confirmed dead while 23 were wounded in the blast.

A bomb went off at the AWMSLAI building in Barangay Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City at about 10 a.m.

The casualties were identified as Eduardo Taliti of Cabatangan, Zambo-anga City and Ayesha Bosniot of Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.

The AMWSLAI building is just across Gate 1 of the Edwin Andrews Airbase.

Initially, police believe the bomb was a cellphone-detonated one and concealed in a bag. (MEA)
