Power combos will do the trick
AFTER his success fighting a slugger like Caril Herrera, the 19-year old phenom AJ “Bazooka” Banal will do what he does best, using his powerful combinations and his amazing footwork when he faces the hard-hitting Panamanian Rafael Concepcion for the vacant World Boxing Association super flyweight crown on July 26 at the Cebu Coliseum.
Michael Aldeguer, president of ALA promotions, told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday, that the strategy they will use on Concepcion will be the same as what they did when Banal disposed off Herrera (21-1, 13 KOs) in the fourth round of their International Boxing Federation super flyweight title eliminator last April 6 at the Araneta Coliseum.
“AJ must use a lot of combinations and move a lot. We don’t want AJ to slug it out with him,” said Aldeguer.
Aldeguer has seen Concepcion’s previous fights and believes that he shares a similar style with Herrera but has more knockout power.
“Concepcion is a slugger, he comes right at you. He is like Herrera but has more powerful punches,” told Aldeguer.
Banal boasts an outstanding 17-0-1 win-loss-draw record and has 14 KOs, while Concepcion has 10 wins 2 losses and a draw and 6 KO’s.
Banal is ranked first in IBF, second in World Boxing Organization, third in WBA and 17th in World Boxing Council while Concepcion is ranked 6th in WBA and 11th in WBC.
Meanwhile, Milan “Milenyo” Milendo, also slated to battle in the fight card, will be facing another Panamanian, Carlos Melo, for the WBA Intercontinental crown. (EKA)
