Mandae Jaycees nip Versacool

THE powerhouse Mandaue Jaycees managed by Joey Cal nipped Versacool, 71-70, Tuesday night in a thrilling ballgame for its third straight win to lead the Metro Cebu Uptown Jaycees-organized Jaycees Basketball Association President’s Cup-2008 at the City Sports Club gym, Cebu City.

After figuring in a 32-all stand-off at halftime, the two protagonists further engaged in an air-tight battle with Mandaue Jaycees taking a hair-line, 52-51 going into the final period.

Tense moments continued the rest of the way until Versacool’s Jeremy Huang split his charities in the final 7.3 seconds to grab the lead, 70-69, but Nestor Patindol quickly answered with a fast heroic perimeter jumper in the last two seconds to lift Mandaue Jaycees to a crucial hairline victory.

Patindol powered Mandaue Jaycees with 18 points including the heroic closed guarded short jumper, while Edgar Colina drew huge support with 12 points.

Huang had a game-high 28 points to lead Versacool, which also had Benedict Chua and Edmund Odullo combining for 28 points.

In the other game, the younger Landview Property five snapped Cebu Dentcraft two-win streak in an 83-61 rout for its first win in three outings. (PR)
