THE vacated seat for commissioner in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (Cesafi) is suddenly becoming a hot item in the basketball market.
Commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy tendered his resignation from the Cesafi and until now no word was given whether he will stay or the Cesafi will be tapping a new commissioner.
Last Monday, the athletic directors were given a free reign to address the problem and although their recommendations need to go through the board members, they have come up with three scenarios—keep Tiukinhoy, recommend three candidates or endorse someone.
As of now, names that are dangled who will possibly be a new leader in the Cesafi. The name that caused the most stir is Cebu City Councilor and multi-titled coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba.
Alcoseba said that he was surprised when his name came up because of his rift with the Cesafi last year. He had created the Visayas Amateur Athletic Association, which was the reason why Cesafi had created the resolution banning teams from joining it.
“I just want to make it clear that I did not apply and I did not ask anyone to nominate me,” Alcoseba said.
Alcoseba however looks at the possibility of being the new commissioner as bleak because he already has “very many responsibilities.”
Difficult
“That job needs someone who will do it on a full-time basis. It is difficult for me because of what I do,” said the City Councilor who is also the coach of a team that plays in a national competition, and is also an event organizer.
Alcoseba, however, said that there will be wiggle room in his busy schedule if the Cesafi will ask him and said that he is certain that he will still make a difference to the organization.
“Diha gud ko gikan, if they want my help, then why not?” he said. He once coached a collegiate team and was a collegiate player himself.
As of the moment, the Cesafi is at a standstill. Instead of starting its preparations for the 2008 season, which starts in two months, the organization is still boxed on filling the commissioner slot.
Tiukinhoy, whose resignation was still not finalized, said that if Cesafi wants him to stay, he will, but only if the board will act and put its foot firmly down on the resolution. (MCB)
