Saturday, June 07, 2008 UP Centennial Cup blasts off today
IN commemoration of the 100th year since the founding of the University of the Philippines in 1908, a three-day football festival—the UP Centennial Cup—will kickoff today at the UP Cebu football grounds.
A total of 24 teams will be competing for football supremacy in the Men’s Open and Women’s Open category.
Sixteen teams will clash in the Men’s Open category – the organizing team Uptown United FC, the home team UP Alumni FC, the Uptown United Invitational Cup champions the University of Southern Philippines Alumni FC, the visiting Ormoc FC, Talisay FC, Hellhounds FC, House of Hope FC, No To Drugs FC, San Roque FC, the 2008 European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Soccer Cup champion Tsuneishi F, Spectra FC, Xantos FC, People Support FC, Barili FC, Queen City United FC and Science High FC.
Meanwhile, eight teams will battle it out in the Women’s open category—Melbourne A, Melbourne B, Mobelhaus, No To Drugs FC, Science High FC, Guts, Peppers and Ormoc FC.
The football fiesta features a nine-a-side tourney for the Men’s Open and seven-a-side for the Women’s Open category. (EKA)
