PNP to open store for cops

MEMBERS of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Central Visayas may soon be able to buy basic commodities and fuel products at very low prices with the opening of the Mamang Pulis Service Store in Cebu.

Last Wednesday, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mamang Pulis Service Store, which is scheduled to be inaugurated on Aug. 8.

The store is undergoing construction across the PRO 7 headquarters in Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr. along Osmeña Blvd., Cebu City.

Strengthened

“We are strengthened by the promise that our services will be improved and our comrades will have a place where they can buy certain commodities not only pertaining to their needs in the police service, but also to their personal needs,” Roderos said in a speech.

Once it will go operational, the store’s branch in Cebu will be under the management of retired Lt. Col. Ceasar Agcon.

Nationwide, the Ma-mang Pulis Store so far has 16 branches.

Roderos said the store, which caters to all the members of the police organization, apart from being the exclusive distributor of PNP uniforms will also sell grocery items, rice and other commodities and medicines at a very low prices because it is tax-free and subsidized by the government.

Gas company

The regional police office is also in the process of looking for a gasoline company that will supply the oil depot that will later be put up next to the store.

The store may extend its services and assistance to indigent civilians in remote rural areas as part of its social welfare commitment.

Roderos, however, said there is a control system in selling the items to the members to avoid it from being abused.

“There is a maximum limit for every policeman because the intention is for family use only,” he said. (JST)
