Barili FC upsets Ormoc, 3-2

BARILI FC came from behind and overcame the top seeded Ormoc FC, 3-2, in the quarterfinals of Men’s Open category of the University of the Philippines Centennial Cup yesterday at the UP football field.

Rocky Garciano drew first blood with a strike from the right flank in the 14th minute of regulation to give Ormoc FC the 1-0 lead.

After halftime, Godwin Nilles equalized the game with a long shot from the middle of the pitch at the 18th minute.

Rene Menchavez brought the game back to Ormoc FC’s advantage with a break away goal five minutes late but in the 26th minute Tata Magusara tied the game at 2 goals apiece.

In the waning minutes of the game Magusara played hero with his second goal and gave the underdog Barili FC the victory.

Meanwhile in another quarterfinal clash, San Roque FC prevailed against Science High FC, 3-1.

At first both teams were equally matched but Science High FC had an early look and a break away goal from striker Blui Arriola in the 15th put the team on top.
A minute later, Macmac Monroid scored the equalizer for SRFC.

Goals kept on coming for SRFC as they scored the next two goals, one from Genard Aller in the 27th minute and another from Ryan Bordalba in the 30th minute to cap the victory.

On the other hand, it was an exciting battle between No To Drugs FC and Xantos FC with NTD FC winning 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

In the regulation, Christensen Lapad of NTD FC scored the first goal with a well-timed header in the 11th minute while Alex Buanhug scored the lone goal for Xantos FC. (EKA)
