BARANGAY Calape bested 15 other teams to emerge as champion in the first Mayor Sun J. Shimura Womens Volleyball tournament in Daanbantayan, Cebu.
Barangays Calape and Tapilon fought in the championship game last Wednesday at the Daanbantayan Sports Center and Calape won three sets of the four-set game.
Tapilon only placed second, while barangay Poblacion took third place.
Mayor Shimura announced that the awarding will be held on June 12 during the program in line with the celebration of Independence Day at the Rizal Plaza.
The champion will receive P5,000, the second placer will take home P3,000, while the third placer will earn P2,000. All three teams will also bring home a trophy.
The tournament was opened last May 2, with 16 of the 20 barangays fielding their teams.
Shimura provided the uniforms of each barangay who participated the tournament under the sports program of his administration. (PR)
