2 winners share P182M lotto jackpot

TWO persons will share the P182 million lotto jackpot prize in Sunday’s draw, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said yesterday.

One of the winners bought his or her winning ticket from the Lucky Circle outlet in SM City Cebu.

The other winner is from Luzon, said PCSO Visayas and Mindanao Manager William Medici.

Each winner will receive P91 million as share of the jackpot.

Last Sunday’s winning number combination is 01-08-24-38-12-14.

Medici said several people from the Visayas and Mindanao area, mostly from poor families, have become instant millionaires because of the lottery.

In January 2003, a person who bought lotto tickets from a Cebu City outlet won P135 million. The tickets were sold by the lotto outlet on Pelaez St., Cebu City. The owner, Annabel Javier, also received P500,000 as seller’s prize.

In 1997, the late military general Roso Sabalones won P47 million as lotto jackpot. In 2001, a high school graduate from a southern Cebu town won the lotto jackpot in the amount of P3.7 million.

For security reasons, the PCSO doesn’t reveal the identities of the lotto winners and only allow the reporting of their background and personal circumstances.

Medici said that with the increasing number of lotto millionaires, ticket sales have steadily increased every year.

He said that 55 percent of lotto sales goes to prizes, 30 percent to charity and 15 percent to operational expenses.

Among PCSO projects are milk-feeding programs for pupils in different public schools. Medici said Department of Education (DepEd) and local government officials can present a feeding program to PCSO for funding.

PCSO also provides free medicines and cash assistance to defray hospital expenses to indigent patients. (EOB)
