Tuesday, June 10, 2008 BAP 7 head to sit out BAP-SBP ‘nat’l congress’
BASKETBALL patron Lorenzo “Chao” Sy is standing firm in his decision to stay with the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) faction of the BAP-SBP organization.
Sy, who was named BAP-7 regional director, stayed with BAP despite the offer of the SBP faction to return to their fold.
“I got an invitation to go to Manila on June 12 and vote in the (BAP-SBP) election. I declined. First they booted me out of the organization, dropping me off like a hot potato but now they want me back and vote. I just can’t do that. My loyalty is with the BAP and I had already cast my vote,” Sy told Sun.Star Cebu.
The BAP faction held a National Congress and election last June 4 and was attended by 67 of the 82 voting members and overwhelmingly elected former congressman Prospero “Butch” Pichay as the national president.
“That election was legitimate. It was attended by 67 of the 82 voting members of the BAP-SBP. The SBP faction were invited but they ignored the invitation. And it was attended by some sports luminaries and members of the Fiba family,” said Sy.
Since, the SBP National Congress is drawing near, Sy believed that the main problem for now is the quorum since BAP-SBP has 82 voting members and the SBP faction could only managed 13 members in their fold. (RCM)
