Ramirez: Hold Cebu sports summit

PHILIPPINE Sports Commission head William Butch Ramirez advised Cebuano sports leaders to hold a summit to assess their achievements and plot the next move for Cebu sports in the future.

Ramirez, who assumed the PSC chair three years ago, was in Cebu to head the inauguration of the new PSC Region 7 office and hand over gymnastics equipment to Cebu.

“You should have a summit to assess how you are doing and address your needs. You can also have seminars on training, sports psychology and sports medicine,” Ramirez said.

The commissioner also assured that he is willing to help top Cebuano athletes achieve their potential.

“We can have a coach in Manila, or even a foreigner, assigned here in Cebu to train your top athletes. The PSC will just shoulder for his monthly salary,” said Ramirez.

Meanwhile, Ramirez turned over two container vans full of gymnastics equipment to the PSC Region 7, which is now headed by Dr. Danilo Villadolid after former regional director Fr. Vic Uy got assigned to the head office.

“If we buy this equipment, this will be worth P25 million,” said Uy, who accompanied Ramirez yesterday.

Uy said he hoped the newly donated equipment will be put to good use and will help discover new talents in Cebu,

“I hope this equipment will help someone from Cebu to be able to represent the country in the Olympics someday,” said Uy.

Aside from the gymnastics equipment, Ramirez also promised more support from the PSC.

“We will give you a boxing ring worth P1 million,” said Ramirez. “That way, maybe a Cebuano will get to join the national team.” (ML)
