Tiukinhoy works on TV coverage of Cesafi games

SINCE the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) made its decision to keep Felix Tiukinhoy as the commissioner for another year, just a month before the 2008 season starts, there is a lot of ground to cover for the preparations.

And Tiukinhoy is up and about to put things in order for the opening of the games come July.

“We have a lot of work to do. As of the moment, our main concern is the negotiation for the television coverage,” Tiukinhoy said.

Tiukinhoy tendered his resignation from the post following a falling out with the Cesafi board when the latter turned back on a resolution that it supposedly inked to keep its teams from competing in rival leagues. Tiukinhoy, being the implementer of the resolution, stood his ground and maintained that the resolution be respected to prevent it to be a precedent in the future.

Tiukinhoy tendered his resignation months ago but it was only last Friday when the board finalized its decision to reject his resignation and meet him halfway.

Details of the agreement between Tiukinhoy and the board were, however, kept amongst themselves.

Meanwhile, Tiukinhoy said that he is only waiting for the terms and agreement of the marketing group that will televise the Cesafi games, which will be reviewed by the board.

Another issue that Tiukinhoy said needs to be addressed is the budget.

“I hear complaints that there is a need for budget. It is not a big problem because the schools pay registration fees for every event that they take part in,” Tiukinhoy said.

He added that the registration fee is enough for the operational expenses of the games.

Tiukinhoy said that the schools were not made to pay last year because it was shouldered by the proceeds of the basketball competition the other year.

Aside from this, Tiukinhoy also plans to talk to the top honchos of the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines and National Collegiate Athletic Association and he will be getting tips from them since these two have been in existence for a long time.

He will also try to follow the criteria of the UAAP cheer dance competition, which he plans to propose to the board about. (MCB)
