Sunday, June 15, 2008 Orcullo guns for third title; 60 join juniors division
THREE’S a charm?
After securing two titles in 2003 and 2006, Dennis Orcullo is gunning for another one in the upcoming 1st Senate President Manny Villar Cup–Sun.Star Superbalita 9-Ball Challenge.
“Cebu is a lucky place for me as I’ve already won two big tournaments there,” said Orcullo. “Hopefully, I could make it three,”
In 2003, Orcullo was victorious, 11-10 , in a neck-to-neck battle against Junbert Ogang, while he conquered the 25-year-old Roland Garcia in the 2006 contest for his second crown.
However, his attempt for a third title will be not as easy as he will be facing the big guns of world pool as well as the former champions of the event.
World Class
This year he will be facing world class competitors in the legendary Efren “Bata” Reyes, former World Pool champion Django Bustamante, former world champion and reigning Superbalita 9-Ball challenge champion Alex Pagulayan, 2005 champion Ronnie Alcano, Roberto Gomez, former Asian Games gold medalist Gandy Valle, reigning national titleholder Lee Van Corteza and Warren Kiamco.
At stake for the Open category is a cool P400,000.
The top cue masters will be arriving in Cebu on June 19 and will join the opening ceremony on June 20 along with Senator Manny Villar.
Meanwhile, some 60 youngsters have registered for the Elementary and High School Division which is set to kickoff today at 10 a.m. at the Atrium of SM City Cebu.
Registration of players will still be accepted today with a registration fee of P400 for the Elementary Division and P500 for the High School Category.
