Pa loses son on Father’s Day
TWO persons, including a 14-year-old boy, died in shooting incidents in Cebu City over the weekend.
Three Barangay Ermita tanods were initially reported as behind the death of Junard C. Anter, but a line-up made up of 16 tanods yielded no positive result.
The police are also validating reports that if not the tanods, Carbon Public Market vendors’ security association members wearing shirts similar to barangay police uniforms may be the ones responsible.
Junard, 14, died after a stray bullet hit him in the chest at the corner of F. Gonzales and Lincoln Sts. in Ermita at 1:15 a.m. yesterday.
The incident was triggered allegedly by a drunk man identified as Carbon fruit dealer Wilson “Willy” Bagol, 27, who was reported to have created trouble in the area.
Three unidentified men believed to be barangay tanods or members of the vendors’ security association arrived, prompting Bagol to run away.
The men chased and shot Bagol, who was hit in the left thigh.
A slug, however, also hit Anter, who was just standing beside a parked trisikad (a pedal-powered tricycle) driven by his father.
SPO2 Rey Cuyos of the Homicide Section said that Junard has since helped his father drive the trisikad to support their daily needs after his elementary graduation.
The Anters are from Barangay Kangdampas, Barili, Cebu but settled in Sitio Viking Alaska, Barangay Mamba-ling, Cebu City.
His father Ananias rushed Junard to the Cebu City Medical Center, where he died hours later.
Bagol, on the other hand, was also taken to the same hospital by PO1 Mark Sy, one of the responding personnel from the Carbon Police Station.
In a mobile phone interview, Cuyos told Sun.Star that during a line-up at 1 p.m. yesterday, Ananias initially pointed to a tanod as one of those who participated in the shooting.
Moments later, however, Ananias allegedly recanted and said that the tanod he identified was actually a little bit shorter.
Cuyos said that Ermita Barangay Captain Felicisimo Rupinta assured he will help the Homicide Section in the investigation.
Rupinta, Cuyos said, promised to have four other tanods show up at the Cebu City Police Office headquarters after failing to join the line-up.
In a separate incident, a cigarette vendor was also killed after getting shot in the chest at 10 p.m. last Saturday.
A Gen. Maxilom Ave. mall head guard has been linked to the killing.
Initial investigation by Cuyos’ team showed that the incident took place at a waiting shed along Gen. Maxilom.
Aurora Torado identified the victim as live-in partner Jomar E. Solon, 27, of Sitio Oprra, Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.
She tagged Mango Square Mall security guard Servellano Nemeria as the alleged perpetrator.
Torado told the investigators that Solon was sitting at the waiting shed while selling cigarettes when Nemeria suddenly appeared.
Nemeria, who was armed with a handgun, then allegedly shot Solon in the chest before fleeing.
Responding policemen failed to find him in his house in Sitio Oprra.
A passing ambulance rushed Solon to the nearby Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, but he died along the way.
Torado claimed that Solon and Nemeria argued at 9:30 p.m. last Friday over cigarettes that the victim was selling. (JST)
