Monday, June 16, 2008 Speak out: An end to wasteful driving By Vicente P. Cujardo Cebu City
I USED to operate a few taxicabs way back when the price of gasoline was P11 per liter. Each day, I had to remind my drivers to turn on air-conditioners only when there are passengers on board to save on gas. As observed, air-conditioned cars consume 30 to 40 percent more of fuel than non-air con units.
Today, gasoline has gone up to P55 per liter and I haven’t seen vacant taxicabs cruising on busy streets with rolled down windows. I wonder why taxi and V hire drivers can’t do what a lot of private car owners are doing to conserve energy.
Wasteful driving is one reason my neighbor’s transport units are marked for sale.
