Thursday, June 19, 2008 Proposed entertainment facility to employ 300 by December ’08
A NEW high-end establishment plans to employ at least 300 people when it starts operations by the end of the year.
Chris Karageorges, chairman of the Don Christo Inc., said its recruitment efforts have already started with the hiring of department heads.
Aside from this, the company has also started finalizing the design concepts of the “Hollywood-like” disco club.
“We have talked with American designers as well as Filipinos designers with American education,” Karageorges told a news conference yesterday.
The final interior design concept will be known in 45 days, after which design implementation will take place.
Aware of some negative perceptions that might be attributed to his company, Karageorges said Don Christo Inc. is strictly complying with all the rules for it to operate.
Jose Gloria, executive director, said the company will see to it that it will maintain a good and wholesome image.
Karageorges currently holds a lease term of not less than 20 years for the old casino building located at Nivel Hills in Lahug, Cebu City.
Although the final details of the design have yet to be completed, Karageorges gave members of the media a peek of how the establishment will look like.
“Going inside, you will see the main disco area,” he said. This area is considered to be multi-functional and can accommodate approximately 8,000 people (not 1,000 as earlier reported).
The ground floor will also feature a number of bars and VIP (exclusive) rooms. The basement section will house the main games room that will feature a bingo area, slot machines, billiards, snookers and family karaoke rooms.
“We are (also) talking with Pagcor (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.)” Karageorges said, in reference to the casino operations of the future establishment.
Although the whole establishment, covering a total floor area of 3,600 square meters, will feature a number of facilities, Karageorges said the company will handle all amenities to maintain quality standards.
The entire old casino complex, which has an area of about one hectare, will also feature a paradise garden restaurant, patisseries and parking area.
The paradise garden restaurant, which will operate 24 hours a day, will be the first facility to operate in the complex, prior to the projected full operation in December this year.
At present, Don Christo already accepts bookings for corporate events scheduled in time for its opening in December.
Don Christo is also aiming for a five-star accreditation from the Department of Tourism. (DME)
