Thursday, June 19, 2008 Econg receives death threats
REGIONAL Trial Court Judge Geraldine Faith Econg has requested for a police security detail after receiving a death threat last Tuesday.
Supt. Rex Derilo of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 said he is waiting for Econg to send a copy of her request so that it can be forwarded to
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos or to the Police Security Protection Office for approval.
Derilo said that immediately after receiving the threat through a text message, the judge called him up about it.
During their conversation, Econg also requested to possibly provide her with security escort, Derilo said.
The text message read: “Judge condolence. Is’ng mo2r ka lang. – AKP”
Investigation
Derilo said Econg received the text message past 10 a.m., Tuesday.
Econg also reported the incident to the Fuente Osmena Police Station.
Derilo said a CIDG7 team has been tasked to investigate on the report to identify text message sender and determine the motive.
“We will act on it. We will identify the perpetrator before it’s too late,” the CIDG7 official said.
Pending the result of the investigation, Derilo said, he could not speculate on the possible motive considering that Econg is handling several high-profiled cases.
Among the cases handled by Econg are the parricide case of Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association (PBMA) leader Ruben Ecleo Jr. and the drive-by shooting involving alleged fraternity hitman Aristotle Aves. (JST)
