Monday, June 23, 2008 Foreign interns visit facilities
SIX students from Sor-Trondelag College of Social Work in Trondheim, Norway had flown all the way to Cebu to research and conduct a project observation on issues relevant to their social work studies.
Mia Olsen, Kristene Vigre, Bente Ugland, Mari Veronica Skagseth, Marita Teigen and Kjellrun Husby chose to visit the Philippines to collect data for their report on the Student Training Program (STP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The interns were exposed to the different centers and facilities of the government, as well as nongovernment organizations,
like the Parian Drop-in Center for Street children.
Last year, DSWD 7 served a total of 81 intern students from the different schools in Metro Cebu taking up different courses like Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, AB Psychology, BS Physical Therapy, BS Occupational Therapy, Pedagogical Studies, Associate in Computer Technology and Caregiving.
DSWD provided them with field placement and also on-the-job training service.
STP provides to the interns meaningful learning opportunities, along with social welfare and development, in its different centers and and institutions , as well as in other community-based programs and services.

The program also provides students the experience and opportunity to appreciate government service delivery in social welfare and development.
DSWD is encouraging schools, universities and students in the field of social work, psychology, secretarial, physical therapy, occupational therapy, associate computer and programmer to tie-up with the department for their internship programs.
