Monday, June 23, 2008 American arrested after ‘abduction’
AN AMERICAN national whose parents are Filipinos allegedly abducted an 18-year-old girl early yesterday morning.
At about 3:40 a.m. yesterday, Luisito Filamor, 33, allegedly abducted Lilita Basalo in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City.
Filamor “abducted and forcibly brought the victim into his car,” a green Nissan Sentra (WEZ 937), and also fired a handgun, police reports said.
Chase
Relagine Sunggahid and Joseph Flores also sought police assistance after the suspect allegedly poked a gun at Flores. A police operation against Filamor followed.
Responding officers chased Filamor’s car through Juana Osmeña Ext., Cebu City.
While in pursuit, Senior Inspector George Ylanan fired at Filamor’s car, hitting its left rear-end tire. But the suspect continued driving with a flat tire.
Escape
The responding officers finally arrested the suspect at 6:11 a.m. in Avila Compound, Capitol Site, Cebu City, on the grounds of abduction, indiscriminate firing and grave threats.
Basalo was able to escape from the suspect during the pursuit.
Filamor is currently detained at the Parian Police Station awaiting charges.
SPO 4 Winston Paglina-wan of the Parian Police Station said that a paraffin examination was conducted yesterday morning and results would already be available today.
Filamor’s car has also been turned over to the Philippine National Police crime for further investigation.
Sun.Star Cebu tried to interview Filamor regarding his arrest. But the suspect refused to comment, upon his lawyer’s advice. (EPB)
