Tuesday, June 24, 2008 CCCI to award entrepreneurs
The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has chosen Jane-Jane T. Ong of Leona Cakes and Pastries to be among the Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year (2008).
The granting of recognition will be held during the Grand Chamber Awards of the CCCI on June 30 at the Plenary Hall of Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).
With her passion for producing home-baked cakes and pastries, Ong started Leona Cakes and Pastries as a backyard business venture in 1999. Unlike other business start-ups with a long list of strategies, Leona operates on “quality, affordability and trust in the Almighty.”
Not much of a believer in advertising, Leona reaches its market through word of mouth, the most effective advertising tool. As a result, the company has been gaining sales momentum and continues to increase its market share.
With her own research and development team, Ong ensures that quality is not sacrificed despite the rising costs of ingredients.
“Our ingredients remain as is. Price increases in ingredients never dictate us to change or substitute our original recipes or change our size,” she said.
Aside from Ong, the CCCI will also award City Councilor Nestor Archival Sr., Augusto Go and Philip Tan. (PR)
