P20T reward offered for arrest of killer of Sibonga family

CONCERNED over the gruesome killing of a Swedish national and his family, the mayor of the southern town of Sibonga, Cebu dangled a P20,000 reward for those who could help the police arrest the perpetrators.

Sibonga Mayor Lionel Bacaltos, in a mobile phone interview with Sun.Star Cebu, said he hopes that the cash reward will encourage the witnesses to come out and lead the local police in finding the people behind the killing of Swedish national Alfonso Melker Viksten, his Cebuana wife Maria Serenita and children – Serena Alfeda, 5, and
Johannes Alf, 2.

The victims’ charred bodies were found in separate areas in their 14-hectare property in Sitio Catap, Barangay Banlot, Sibonga.

The police, led by Senior Insp. Noli Cernio, believed they were shot to death before they were burned,

Bacaltos said he asked the Sibonga Police Station to make the investigation a top priority, particularly in determining the motives - if they were killed in a robbery or
because of the victims’ lending business.

Bacaltos said the Viksten couple, who were into lending business, has been known to be good-natured people in the town.

The Sibonga police are looking at angles such as land dispute, family issues and Alfonso’s lending business. About four or five people were believed to be behind the killing.

Cernio earlier said they were close to solving the case. (JST)
