Match maker

STYLE, both local and international, has been in a series of life cycles. Two years ago, many influential fashion editors “killed” safari jackets and shirt dresses. So, we bade goodbye to animal prints, feathers, and furs.

But June 2008 sees the resurrection of the animal-inspired concept in fashion, we then return to the same brown hues, black and white stripes, and flamingo feathers. Not to mention, tiger print, eyelash extensions (calling, WenWen Zaspa) that beckon the attention to the face.

“We’re like following a life cycle. Any style can die anytime; any style can resurrect anytime. Just like that. It’s just a series of life and death. We always say: ‘old is the new ‘new’, ” explains Michael Roberts, fashion director of Vanity Fair magazine, in his interview with FTV.

“In fashion, there’s no such thing as new. Everything is rebirth; a revival of the previous style. If you’re an intelligent fashionista, mix and match the old staff,” continues Roberts.

With this idea, your Live! style team prepared clothes, which you can match with almost any apparel.

The tent dress is a waistless dress with a volume that hangs loose from the shoulders.

“What is good about tent dresses is you can either wear it as a dress itself, or wear it over pants. You may cinch it with a big belt,” suggests Roberts.

If you have long legs (like Melanie Marquez), wearing short pants can be flattering.

Neutral colors, like white, black, beige, and brown, would be appropriate for a bright-colored tank top.

Your blue jeans: they are the most trusted pieces in your wardrobe. You can select from a wide array of silhouettes from different cuts: wide-legged, skinny, straight, boot, flair, and baggy.

“Jeans and t-shirts can be equally fashionable as an Oscar de la Renta ball gown,” says Vogue magazine chief Anna

Wintour on the Barbara Walters Show.

Accessories! They complete you.

When singer Beyonce Knowles was asked by an FTV correspondent about “a sensible fashion,” she shrugged, then replied: “Accessorize! Accessorize!”

Tina Knowles, Beyonce’s mom and lead designer of the House of Dereon, says that bags, necklaces and bracelets can change the total look.

“If you have old clothes, accessories can update or complete the outfit,” Tina adds.

In one of our conversations, Cebuano fashion designer Arcy Gayatin said that a woman with good taste knows what clothes would work for her, and that she’s “never a commodity of trends.”
