Saturday, June 28, 2008 Donaire signs 3-year contract with Top Rank
AFTER leaving Gary Shaw Productions (GSP), International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization flyweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire was signed by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum to a three-year contract.
“He’s somebody we have great hopes for,” Arum said in a report posted at www.espn.com. “He’s a good champion and a very personable kid,” said Arum. “No brainer to sign him.”
Donaire left GSP after he was disappointed with his handler Gary Shaw not giving him enough fights and putting him as an undercard for the Vic Darchinyan and Dimitri Kirilov fight.
Donaire was displeased that he was placed as an undercard for Darchinyan, a fighter that he had demolished in a devastating fifth round TKO last year.
“This is a new adventure for me,” said Donaaire who was pleased with his acquisition by Top Rank, who promised him three fights a year. “I’m not backing out on whoever Mr. Arum or Cameron put in front of me. I’m excited and really happy. I want to fight the best. Bring ‘em on.”
The 25-year-old will be seeing action this August and is also scheduled to fight on October probably in Macau. (EKA)
