Sibonga Softball Open kicks off today

SOFTBALL action shifts to the south as host team Sibonga Niners play Barangay Banlot in the opening day of the 1st Mayor Lionel Bacaltos Softball Open tournament in Sibonga.

A total of 12 teams will vie for the crown in this tournament, which is staged in celebration of the town’s annual fiesta.

Aside from the Sibonga and Banlot squads, Guimbankoan sluggers has joined as the third force from the host town.

They will be contested by three Carcar City teams—Logan, Carcar Royale and Cai-Cai—along with Cebu City squads Boy-C of Tisa, Basak-Pardo and Masong Brothers and the Poblacion-Talisay City squad and Municipality of Lilo-an.

Tournament director Dionisio Bacarisas said the champion team will go home with P6,000, with P5,000 going to the runnerup.

The third and fourth placers will bring home P4,000 and P3,000, respectively.

The softball tournament is one of the three sporting activities that Sibonga is hosting. The town is also staging the Inter-Collegiate basketball tournament with four Cesafi member schools and two non-members schools competing.

The event started last night, while an amateur boxing competition is scheduled to start within the week featuring local fighters and top amateurs in Cebu City and Mandaue City. (RCM)
