Neri: Happy occasions
By Nelia G. Neri
Eve

THE Shrine of Blessed Pedro Calungsod at the Cardinal’s Residence was overflowing with family, friends and wellwishers when Mario Enrico “Ricky” Ordoñez, the eldest son of former banker Del and travel executive Marilou, was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood of Jesus Christ by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Gerald F. Kikanas, Bishop of Tucson, Arizona, USA. It was a poignant moment when Fr. Ricky knelt before his parents to ask for their blessings.

Another touching sight was when Fr. Ricky officiated at the renewal of marriage vows of his parents who have marked 50 years of loving togetherness. Del and Marilou chose to wait for their son’s ordination to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.

That same afternoon Fr. Ricky V. Ordoñez officiated at his first mass of thanksgiving. Indeed the day was one of rejoicing for the Ordoñez family!

A celebration of a life well lived as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend! I’m talking about the 80th birthday dinner of Martina “Beling” Lim Go which I missed because I was out of town. Venue was the Pino Restaurant in Lahug where family (led by devoted husband Ching Hai) and friends gathered for an evening of good food and easy camaraderie.

It was an afternoon affair at Chika-an Restaurant for the joint induction ceremony of the Cebu Bonsai Society with Linda To as president, and the Cebu Suiseki Society (stone collectors) with Lito Alansalon as president. Guest of honor was plant authority Deena Pages who gave an inspirational talk. The occasion was also a fete for June birhtday celebrants Margie Sy, Emerson Murillo and Lito Alansalon.
