Mandaue rules JBA Cup

THE Mandaue Jaycees Selection of Joey Cal stunned RC Goldline-Alcatel of Christian Paroan, 80-77, Tuesday night to rule the Jaycees Basketball Association (JBA) President’s Cup-2008 at the City Sports Club Gym.

The Mandaue Jaycees proved they were too hot to handle for the Goldline-Alcatel and they went on to mount a 67-50 advantage going into the final 10 minutes of the contest behind former USC Warriors slotman, Nestor Patindol, Edgar Colina and Pewee Garcia who poured points from inside and outside.

But the Alcatelmen waxed hot and threatened the Jaycees to move closer, 75-79, in the final 46 seconds remaining behind towering-center Dave Lim and diminutive pointguard Dennis Que who launched several breakaway drives.

John Sulay also threw solid support and delivered four successive undergoal looping crucial shots that almost changed the momentum.

However the challenge proved to be short-lived as the Jaycees scored additional important baskets to secure the pivotal win.

Patindol powered the Jaycees with a game-high 22 points, while Edgar Colina and Pewee Garcia joined the fray with double figures each. The rest of the Jaycees also contributed to their well-balanced scoring.

In the preliminary, Cebu Dentcraft grabbed the third place after beating Landview Property, 86-74. James Loyd Noel led Cebu Dentcraft with 33 points, while four other teammates scored in double digits, headed by Joseph Jayme, Peter Sta. Maria, Boy Te and Cesar Yu.

Pocholo Lao and Michael Hing paced Landview with 17 points apiece, while Mark Hing and Raymund Gollon combined for 24 points in a losing cause.
