Pregnant woman, 1-yr.-old child killed in Argao

A PREGNANT woman and her one-year-old daughter were found hacked in their house in a mountain village of Argao town yesterday morning.

Jocelyn Rubia Gomez, 24, suffered hack wounds all over her body while her daughter was found some 20 meters away from their house.

Roel Gomez had just arrived home from work in Cebu City at 5 a.m. and called out to his wife and daughter.

Front door

Hearing no answer, he walked closer to the house and saw the front door open.

Worried, he went to his father’s house nearby and sought help.

As he and his relatives went inside, they found the seven months pregnant Jocelyn lying on her back with hack wounds all over her body.

After searching the grounds, they also found his dead daughter in the backyard.

Investigation

PO1 Vivian Tamayo said they were following a lead but would not disclose this pending investigation.

However, she said responding police officers, headed by Argao Police Chief Teodulfo Manatad III, found signs that Jocelyn struggled with her attacker.

She reportedly had injuries on her knees and strands of hair in both hands.

The bodies of Jocelyn and their daughter were taken to the Tupas Funeral Homes in Carcar City while other pieces of evidence were taken to the Regional Crime Laboratory.

Also, a chief tanod of a barangay in Argao was shot dead while he was driving a dump truck.

Basilio Alberca Jr., chief tanod of Barangay Cansuje, Argao, was driving a dump truck with his assistant Bertoldo Alberca. They were carrying coal from Toledo City and were on their way back to Cansuje.

Higher ground

When they reached Barangay Alambihod at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, someone fired at them from higher ground, hitting Basilio several times.

Basilio managed to drive 200 meters and seek help from barangay officials but he died due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Bertoldo was unharmed.

PO1 Tamayo said they have not yet identified a suspect in the case.

A father also hacked his son after an argument in Barangay Jumbang, Argao Sunday afternoon.

David John Carreon, 31, and his father Juan, 59, reportedly had an argument inside their house when David suddenly ran outside, wounded in several parts of his body.

He ran to his uncle’s house but died there. Relatives told police that Juan was seen running away with a bolo in his hand. (MEA)
