Tuesday, July 01, 2008 AVGCC’s View kicks off ’08 edition this week
ALTA Vista Golf and Country Club will kick off the 11th edition of its signature tournament—The View Invitationals—this Thursday at their scenic golf course in southern part of the city.
The tournament, dubbed The View in reference of the panoramic visage the Par 72 course offers, is expected to attract close to 400 participants for their member-guest tournament.
“There is still a waiting list (of participants) who wants to join,” said AVGCC’s Rolly Santos.
Aside from local aficionados and guests from the other parts of the country, the event is also expected to draw players from the US, Korea and Indonesia.
The tournament will use the Modified Stableford Scoring System and will be a 36-hole two day contest spread over four days.
Aside from the usual prizes for the top three finishers in Class A, B and C, the tournament also offers an array of Hole-in-One prizes for its five par 3s, including a golf cart, P200,000 cash, trip to Singapore, Class A share of Aznar Realty and two motorcycles among others.
Giveaways
They will also hand out awards for the team with the Lowest Gross, and Lowest Net.
“Our giveaways is also a pair of Adidas golf shoes,” said Nimrod Quińones, who also taught visiting sportswriters a few basics of golf yesterday.
The golf shoes, worth close to P4,000, easily makes up for the P5,000 registration fee each two-man teams pay.
Aside from getting a chance to win the cool prizes, and a host of others in the raffle during the awarding ceremonies, the event will also give players a chance to help out victims of the recent typhoon as the proceeds from the mulligans will go directly to the aid.
According to AVGCC’s Tess Osoa, two of their former employees were victims of the recent sea tragedy.
Meanwhile, AVGCC hosted members of the Cebu Sportswriters Association of Cebu for some driving lessons and a short tour around the course, letting the sports scribes discover why the club’s signature tournament is called, The View as they were taken to some of the prettiest vantage points of the club.
Providing the basic lessons for proper stance and grip were Inting Go, Osoa, and Enrico Solon.
After an hour of taking their turns with the driver and the irons, a short contest was held which saw Marigold Lebumfacil and Jonas Panerio taking the women’s and men’s title of the longest drive. (ML)
