Couple ‘attacks’ man over comment on fighting cock

ARMED with bolos, a couple in Mandaue City allegedly took turns hacking a man who teased them during the fiesta celebration last Sunday in Barangay Labogon.

Adolfo Loreto, 43, and his wife, Corazon, 38, now face a frustrated murder complaint. The two are in police custody after surrendering to PO3 Marlowe Binangbang after the incidet.

PO1 Mar Lofranco, the Basak station investigator who filed the complaint, said the couple attacked Arniel de Gracia Astillero, 33, last Sunday.

Lofranco said Astillero sustained hack wounds in the head, face, arm, shoulders and elbow. He is undergoing treatment at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, where he is listed as being in critical condition.

The attack happened in Barangay Labogon at 4 p.m. last Sunday, at the height of the community’s fiesta celebration.

Teased

Before the attack, Lofranco said Astillero was asked to join a group of men talking in Sitio Cumpang, Upper Labogon.

When the couple passed by, somebody reportedly shouted at them, “o ingon ka imong manok gamhanan (I thought you said your fighting cock was powerful).”

The comment angered Adolfo and he confronted Astillero, who denied making the comment. A heated altercation broke out between the two.

Adolfo and Corazon then went home but later came back already armed with bolos. People scampered away as Adolfo allegedly lunged at Astillero, who tried to evade the attack, not knowing that Corazon was behind him.

Attacked

Corazon then allegely hacked at Astillero’s head and when he turned around to confront her, she allegedly hit the right side of his face, almost severing his ear.
Before Astillero could move, Adolfo allegedly hacked at his right arm. Corazon then hit his left shoulder.

Astillero later managed to wrestle the bolo away from Adolfo.

Astillero ran home bathed in his blood and asked his neighbors to take him to the hospital.

The couple, however, had a different version of the events, said Lofranco. They accused Astillero of harassing people until he got into a fight with Adolfo. Corazon said she attacked Astillero, who was bigger than Adolfo, to save her husband. (OCP)
