Lito Ruiz shot at in Lapu meeting

INTERIOR and Local Government Undersec-retary Lito Ruiz was allegedly shot at during a meeting in Lapu-Lapu City last week, an intelligence report said. He wasn’t hit.

But Senior Supt. Mariano Natuel, head of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said the incident was never reported to police. Still, Natuel said he will ask police investigators to look into the incident.

According to the report, Ruiz was in Sitio Suba Basbas in Barangay Marigondon for a pulong-pulong or meeting. Ruiz was reportedly shot using a gun with a silencer because no gunfire was heard.

According to the report, the wall of the stage where Ruiz was sitting was pierced by a bullet.

Ruiz, who is currently in Europe, confirmed the report but asked reporters not to blow the incident up. He said he does not have a suspect in mind.

Ruiz said the incident will not stop him from working for Lapu-Lapu City’s development.

The husband of incumbent 6th district Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz is reportedly planning to run for Lapu-Lapu City mayor in 2010 and has been going around the city to meet with residents.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza, meanwhile, expressed surprise why the incident was contained in an intelligence report but not reported to the police.
Radaza said that if indeed the shooting took place, it should be reported to the police. (DRT of Superbalita)
