Showdown in Cebu
FOR the first time, the national quarterly ranking of the Dancesport Council of the Philippines Inc. (DSCPI) will be held outside Manila in an effort to bring the competition closer to the other athletes nationwide.
Cebu, being in close proximity to Luzon and Mindanao athletes, is the most viable choice as the venue for this leg of the competition.
And true enough, hundreds will be coming in droves to take part in the daylong competition at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino this weekend as nearly 500 dance athletes have signed up for the event.
This figure more than doubles the usual number of participants that take part in the quarterly rankings, which are usually held at the Philsports Arena.
Dancers from as far as General Santos City and Davao will be joining athletes from Cebu, Metro Manila, Northern Luzon and other Visayas contenders.
Dancesport Team Cebu City, which usually sends the most number of participatnts, will go all out this time and field more than 100 couples to the competition. These are mostly products of the Dancesport sa Barangay program of the Dancesport Team Cebu City
Apart from this, there will be dancers coming from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore, who will dance with Filipino partners and outclass each other in the teacher-student division.
40 divisions
This event is just one of the 40 divisions that will be contested in.
For the event, the organizers tapped the services of foreign adjudicators from Australia, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan, Singapore and Japan.
The event is co-presented by Cebu City Government, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala, Alaxan FR with gold sponsors Department of Tourism, National Commission for Culture & the Arts, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, PAGCOR, Port Seafood Restaurant, Panasonic and Sulpicio Lines.
