A MOUNTAIN barangay school in Cebu City received a two-story four-classroom building from a private company.
The Cantipla Integrated School in Barangay Tabunan, Cebu City received the P2-million donation from Visayan Electric Co. Inc. (Veco).
Aside from the building, Veco will also donate tables and chairs to the school.
The Cebu City Government has given a counterpart fund of about P905,000 for the project.
Veco president Dennis Garcia recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and Department of Education 7 Director Carolino Mordeno.
Cebu City education consultant Joy Augustus Young, Txabi Aboitiz and Sonny Carpio of Aboitiz Group Foundation Inc. (Agfi) witnessed the signing of the agreement.
Veco Community Relations head Paul Hubahib said that with the project, students from Cantipla will have a better learning facility.
Own building
School principal Lily Ann Go said the new building will allow the high school students to have a school building of their own.
They are holding classes in the school library and the old principal’s office.
Located some 12 kilometers from Cebu City proper, Cantipla Integrated School is the first recipient of Veco’s adopt-a-school project.
Agfi and the Cebu City government also entered into another MOA for the construction of school buildings in Mabolo Elementary School and the Talamban National High School.
