Pages resigns as CCSC commissioner

EXACTLY a year after he accepted the task of being the commissioner of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC), the post will be left empty again after sportsman John Pages decided to resign.

Pages tendered his resignation to CCSC head and Cebu City Councilor Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem last month citing having a lot of responsibilities that will hinder him from doing his duties at the CCSC.

“Unfortunately, in the past few weeks, new responsibilities have been added to my schedule that would curtail my contributions to the Commission,” Pages said in his letter.

Pages, a businessman, is the regional head of the Philippine Tennis Association and was recently voted president of the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC).

“With my resignation, I can now focus on my other responsibilities like being the SAC president,” Pages told Sun.Star Cebu in a text message yesterday.

Pages said that despite the resignation, he assured the CCSC that he will continue to contribute his time and resources for the betterment of sports in Cebu City.

Jakosalem, meanwhile, who had recommended Pages to the commission, felt that Pages will leave a huge hole in the commission.

“It is very unfortunate that he had to resign. But we understand the greater burden he has been newly given with their continuously growing and expanding businesses,” he said.

Pages’ spot, which used to be the position that was also vacated by boxing patron Michael Aldeguer, is now searching for a new owner.

“We are once more searching for a new commissioner to take his place,” said Jakosalem, who added that they will await the decision of Mayor Tomas Osmeña when he comes back next week. (MCB)
