Woman, 63, run over by speeding car in Minglanilla

A WOMAN who was eager to visit her youngest daughter died after she got run over by a speeding vehicle while crossing the street in Minglanilla town Friday night.

Praxedes Libosada, 63, had just gotten off a bus from Alegria, Cebu and was getting ready to cross the street.

Her daughter, Virginita Fernandez, told her mother to wait because she was still unloading their bags.

She said that when they got off the bus in Barangay Tunghaan, she heard her mother tell her they are crossing street.

But she was still tending to their bags and she thought her mother would waited for her.

Fernandez said that when she crossed the street, she noticed a woman’s sandal in the middle of the road.

She then saw a cellular phone that looked just like her mother’s.

Sprawled

“I then looked around and called out to say someone had been run over,” she said in Bisaya.

As she looked further ahead, she saw her mother sprawled on the ground.

Daniel Rescoņa, 53, was driving his red Tamaraw FX for Talisay City when Libosada suddenly crossed the street.

Rescoņa admitted not seeing her. He said it was very dark.

Fernandez, Rescoņa and a bystander lifted Libosada into the vehicle. Rescoņa then drove to the Minglanilla District Hospital, where the victim died after 10 minutes.

Rescoņa surrendered to the Minglanilla Police Station. He said he is willing to pay for the expenses. (MEA)
