Sunday, July 06, 2008 Barakos gun for semis spot anew
MANILA—After being derailed the other day, the Red Bull Barakos go all out to fulfill its hope of making it to the semifinal round outright when they face Sta. Lucia Realty today in the 2008 Smart-PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.
Coach Yeng Guiao said they have to pour it out now to avoid being locked in a quadruple tie at the second position at the end of the double-round elimination.
Guiao’s face was grim after losing by two points, 103-105, to Talk ‘N Text last Friday, a fate which may put a lot of pressures to the Barakos against the Realtors, who have nothing to lose because even if they win, they will still go through the wildcard phase.
The Realtors are currently occupying the ninth spot with a 7-10 slate, while the Barakos are second with 10-7. But a setback will end up with a tie along with Magnolia, Coca-Cola and either Ginebra or Alaska.
In the event of a quadruple tie, a quotient system will be used to determine the top two teams which will dispute the second automatic semis berth through a knockout playoff.
There is still a danger that Red Bull may not wind up among the top two if it loses to the Realtors. (FCC)
