A week after the youth representatives to the songwriting workshop submitted their compositions, the Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children releases the 10 finalists to the 2nd Children’s Popular Music Festival in October.
The finalists are Huni sa Paglaum by Jay Marc Garcia and Vanisa Pearl Abelong of Mandaue City; Paglaum by Kristel Daene Clores of San Fernando; Tudloi Ako by Leira Rodriguez of Samboan; Pangandoy Ko, Pangandoy Mo by Mary Mae Cavalida of Samboan; Kaniadto by Ronald Vasig, Rosalito Carolasan and Richard Teves of Oslob; Timbang by Jason Mike Moneva and Lynel Sucalit of Catmon; Ang Kahayag sa Akong Panaw by Jose Thaddeus Roble III of Danao City; Libre ang Mangandoy by Eriza Agustien Capuno and Elma Cabreras of Carmen; Kabataan by Ava Laureen Arnejo, Marie Christine Maningo and April Lyna Armecen of Sogod; and Ang Hagit sa Bata by Cynthghi Guevarra of Malabuyoc.
The young composers can interpret their own compositions. They can also choose another youth from their respective local government units to interpret their songs.
This weekend, the young composers will meet with the organizers to finalize the arrangement and the needed enhancements to their compositions.
Shortly after, the final recording will take place to produce the album, which will be released on the day of the grand finals sometime in October. Keep posted for developments.

If you had been very observant of the local entertainment scene, you must have noticed that this year, Cebuana diva (others proudly refer to her as Asia’s diva, a title she rightfully deserves) Dulce had been coming to Cebu more frequently for various performances in malls, private parties, corporate affairs and other venues.
In one of her recent shows, Dulce revealed that there is one coming show (unfortunately, it will be in Manila, folks) that she’s quite excited about. It’s the local stage adaptation of Hairspray.
She’ll be delineating the role played by Queen Latifah in the movie version. The producers said Dulce is perfect for the role.
One of her three daughters, Jemimah, auditioned for a supporting role but was found to be too young.
Incidentally, Dulce’s second son, David Ezra (he was the one who did The Prayer with his mom at the SM City Cebu Northwing on Mother’s Day) also played the male lead role of Hairspray in their school.
Clearly, Dulce’s children are slowly following her footsteps as evidenced by the Mother’s Day show at SM Northwing where she was joined onstage by her children including one-year-old Abegail who, as young as that, already enjoyed being cheered by people.

While beauty contest enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the Ms. Universe pageant next week, where our country’s bet is said to be doing her best to wrestle the crown, another Filipina, a Cebuana at that, made a mark (though she failed to win the title) in another international beauty tilt recently, the 1st Ms. Leisure International.
Former Ms. Cebu and Ms. Phils.-Earth runner-up Katrina Minoza was among the top 10 finishers. She also won the Best Smile award. Belated it may be, I still want to extend my felicitations to a wonderful lady.

A week after Ross voluntarily went out of the Pinoy Dream Academy, still another scholar chose to end his stint in the reality TV program. The scholar is Jet.
It’s sad to note that while many tried to show their best during the auditions held nationwide just to be given the chance to invade show business, those who had successfully hurdled the tedious process don’t have the determination to pursue their dream.
I can empathize with teacher-director Joey Reyes when he blew his top after Ross’s voluntary exit. He mentioned waste of effort, time and saliva on their part.
This is the second edition of the reality search and thus, the scholars already have an idea on what they have to undergo and endure inside the Academy and so are expected to be prepared.
