Friday, July 11, 2008 BAP-SBP Pangilinan faction to meet in Cebu
CEBU City will be the venue of the first official gathering of the officers and board members of the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) since its election last June 12.
SBP Executive Director Noli Eala told Sun.Star Cebu to let Cebu hosts the session which comes less than a week after another faction of the BAP-SBP’s tournament—the Asian University Basketball Championship—closes.
Meeting
“We are planning to hold a planning session in Cebu (City) on July 18. And we hope that everything will be in order for this meeting,” Eala said.
This will be the first time that the officers, board members and stakeholders, led by telecommunication mogul Manny V. Pangilinan, of the Philippine Olympic Committee-recognized basketball body, will meet since the group held an election last June 12 at the Dusit Hotel in Makati City.
The group overwhelmingly gave Pangilinan a four-year mandate as the head of the Philippine basketball body.
Match
“At the same time, Pangilinan and the rest of the officers and board members, will also try to watch the much-awaited (Liga Pilipinas) game between Cebu (Niños) and Pampanga (Buddies) at the Cebu Coliseum. So it will be a good time to hold our planning session in Cebu,” said Eala, who is also the president and CEO of the Liga Pilipinas.
Cebu Niños team owner Michel J. Lhuillier and head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba are both members of the board of SBP.
Pangilinan, on the other hand, is the major backer of Pampanga Buddies.
Cebu and Pampanga are currently occupying the No.1 and No.2 of the Liga Pilipinas Tour Elimination standings with 24 and 20 points, respectively. (RCM)
